Day 21: Mouse on Mouse

I'd be lying if I said that today's photo wasn't a "lazy" one. This weekend I've been chillin like a villian, and I really wasn't sure what I wanted to try in terms of an interesting photo capture for today, so I just decided to show off something I use quite literally, every single day: My Razer mouse and mousepad.

This is actually my second Razer DeathAdder. The first I got was about three years ago, and it was the first and only gaming mouse I've owned. Back in the days, I used to play a lot of shooter games, like CounterStrike Source and Left4Dead2. Those were the days before League of Legends, yes. But I knew I needed a better mouse than my dinky Gateway mouse that came with my desktop. I was tired of being called a "noob" in my games. I didn't consider myself a hardcore gamer, so investing $70 into a mouse was not something I was ever planning on doing. But I did. I finally told myself that I wanted a better mouse so I could make "head shots" and feel good about myself that I did so well in a video game. And you know what, this mouse is a beast. It fits perfectly into my hands. It's rather large, but it feels nice for me. Anyway, after three years, my mouse finally gave out on me and I was sad for about a week. I really didn't want to invest in another mouse. Even though I stopped playing shooters, I was playing a lot of League of Legends, and even though I don't need a good mouse to play LoL well, I still missed having my nice mouse. A few weeks later, my boyfriend bought me another DeathAdder for my birthday! Count on a gamer boyfriend to buy you gaming birthday gifts......but not a handbag???? BUT OF COURSE.

I love this mouse though. I know it's not the most expensive or best of the Razer mice, but I don't really care. It does what I want it to do and it feels great. Besides, I think if you need the best of the best in a gaming mouse, you probably just suck. LOL. jk. No, but really.

The mousepad I custom designed from this Chinese website. It took about a week to get to me, but the quality is super nice and it was only $10! I used Illustrator for the design and it is based off a T-shirt by Hellz Bellz. So I really take no real credit in the design. I just recreated it so I could blow it up for personal use. Plus I thought it was clever to have a mousepad with a 'mouse' on it. :B

Day 20: Uncomfortable walking shoes

Okay, I want to first off admit that it's very difficult for me to remember taking a daily photo when an event is going on. Today I woke up at 2pm and then a few hours later, we had people coming over for our "Monster Hunter" bbq. I completely forgot to take a photo of all the delicious foods we had made. Isn't that whack of me?! I don't know how I didn't think that was a good photo opportunity. Alas, this is again, not a true "photo of the day" but I still think it's relevant to today anyway.

Yesterday I went for a walk for an hour in these shoes. It was really uncomfortable to be honest, but I didn't have any other shoes on me. I ended up getting a blister that is really bugging me right now. Moral of the story is, wear comfortable shoes if you're going to go around walking for an hour. Yeah. I think that's a given.

Day 19: Little pink rose

Went to Oxnard for the weekend and decided to take a nice little walk around the neighborhood. Honestly, there is not much to look at. The surrounding streets are just more neighborhoods of houses and then there's a small park nearby. I walked around for an hour with my iPod and camera. I didn't even bring my phone. But I didn't find a lot of things to capture. Then, while I was walking through one of the neighborhoods, I noticed this little lady peeking out from the fence. It looked so cute! But it also looked sad at the same time. Right away, I imagined a princess so beautiful, wealthy, and has anything she could hope for, but wants to escape the duties of being 'royal'. I know, it's a very typical story, but that's what I thought of. Sometimes even flowers want to escape into the vast world beyond their roots.

I feel ya brah.

Day 18: Anthony's RX100 and yes, so jelly......

Anthony flew in from SF today and brought along his awesome camera, the Sony RX-100. I played around with it for a little bit and..........MY GOD. IT'S AMAZING. The jpeg quality is super good, if not as good as RAW. And low light shooting is sexy with very minimum noise. This camera makes my LX5 look like some Fisher Price camera. I'm so jealous..........

I took the top photograph with his RX100. I wanted to test out the low light setting, because I think every camera is pretty decent with natural light. And I love taking back-lit shots of objects. I think it gives a really ordinary object a really cool perspective. Translucent things work even better.

Love Nature

These were a series of photos I took while I was in Washington state. I'm not huge on nature photography to be honest, but I can definitely see the appeal. Nature is all around us and we rarely take a moment to just appreciate the simple blades of grass or typical pine cone. But when you look at these things through a different 'perspective', it becomes interesting. I think that's what I love the most about photography. You can take the mundane and shine new light upon it. You can take into consideration the different angles, how detailed, and what mood you want the object to convey. And it works extremely well with nature, because most of us don't realize how in-sync with nature we really are. These all seem like objects, but are also living things. So take a moment to look at the nature around you. Roses aren't the only ones worth appreciating.

I love collecting urban vinyl toys. I got into Lunartik vinyl's sometime last year when I stumbled upon one of these guys in Little Tokyo! Lunartik originated in the UK so it's more popular there. I haven't seen them sell anywhere else in LA other than at Kinokinuya in Little Tokyo. Yes, like most vinyl toys, they are part of a gachapon system, meaning they are sealed in mystery boxes so you won't know which one you'll get. The yellow one in the middle is actually considered a "rare" in the series! There's a lot of these babies so I'm glad I got all different ones so far.

Day 17: Tea & Texting

Today I found out I didn't get a job for a position I was really anticipating for. SONOFABITCH.
I'm so mad. Still mad actually.

Anyway, to calm my nerves, I drank some tea and sent angry texts to my friends about it. !@#$%^&

Oh well. C'est la vie they say.

Day 16: iLuv U iPod

This thing is pretty much my life. I've dropped it on the hard ground, in the toilet, and have lost it a couple of times. Yet this baby has still been working (sort of) since 2008 when I purchased it! I have to say, I've had terrible luck with most Apple products and am not really a fangirl in any way. But I do own a Macbook (2 actually...) and I generally think it's too thin to handle drops. With the ipod, however, I feel like the build is really solid. I don't plan on ever switching to any other MP3 player because I'm used to the feel of the iPod classic. I've also tried the iPod touch, just to upgrade to a new one just in case this one dies completely. But I hated it. So you know what, I'm staying true to this guy here. He's been through a lot and is still with me. In fact, just the other day, I thought it died completely. It wouldn't even hold a charge anymore, but miraculously, it came back to life. Although now the battery life is extremely bad and it doesn't seem to hold a charge for very long at all. I guess it's back on life support. But I'm sticking with it until the very end.

Day 15: Keto Cookies

Patrick is on the 'Keto diet' which is essentially like Atkin's, where you try to limit as much carbs in your diet as possible. I am not on Keto, because I love carbs and I am not a huge fan of meat. And honestly, it's easy for him because he can just eat a lot of meat to get full. I do eat meat, I'm just not that fond of too much of it. Anyway, I was looking for recipes for desserts that we could both enjoy. So I found a recipe for Peanut butter Keto cookies. I've made these many times before, but they were always so bland and blah. The texture was also not there since you couldn't use regular flour. I found out about Flax seed meal and it made all the difference in the world! Now the cookies actually look like cookies.

If you're interested in making these for yourself, don't let the picture fool you. They are actually quite good! Plus they are low in sugar and low in carbs. Win/Win. I'll proceed to explain the reasoning behind the ingredients and let you know how to make them.

1 cup old fashion peanut butter (yes, old fashion, because the regular stuff has added sugar in it.)
1 cup of flax seed meal (for texture and it really does make a difference)
1 cup of Splenda (or any other 0 cal sugar alternative)
1 or 2 eggs (usually 1 is okay but 2 will bind them a little better)
1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk (for moisture)
2 tbsp of butter (I do not use butter btw, but it makes them much more flavorful and moist. I would only recommend butter for people ON Keto or low carb. If you're on a low cal diet, you can choose to omit.)
2 tsp nutmeg (my secret ingredient!)
1/2 tbsp of salt

~ Mix dry ingredients first.
~ Mix in peanut butter with eggs
~ Slowly mix in the dry ingredients
~ Mix in almond milk  (you can use more or less almond milk, depending on how thick or thin the consistency is. It shouldn't be too thick.)

~ Preheat oven to 350F

~ Use a baking sheet and use oil or pam to grease so cookies won't stick
~ Take even amounts of the mixture and roll into a ball with your hands
~ Gently place on cookie sheet and flatten them out (not too flat! Just until they look like cookies)
~ Put in oven
~ Bake for 15 minutes.

~ Take out after 15 minutes and let it cool for 5 minutes.

~ Add whip cream on top for additional moisture.

~ If you're not on Keto, it tastes delicious with some blackberry jam!
~ Dip a napkin in some olive oil and wipe your hands with it when you're rolling the mixture. It will keep the peanut butter mixture from sticking all over your hands.

Kudos to my bf posting this on Reddit! I'm total noob with Reddit stuff but I hope you guys will enjoy it!
And how awesome is it that this guy posted all the nutritional info! Brilliant! This is perfect. As you can see, they aren't exactly "low cal" but they are low carb/low sugar, so is still a healthier alternative to regular cookies.

On one last note, someone on Reddit also mentioned how Keto diets do use "flour". That was my mistake. I should clarify that I know you can use flour (I was looking at Almond flour originally) but upon going to the store, I realized a small bag of it is quite expensive! I chose flax seed as an "alternative" because it's cheaper, although it doesn't have as smooth as texture as almond or coconut flour I'm sure. I also should've clarified that you can't use "WHITE FLOUR" on Keto. 1 cup of white flour = about 90g of carbs!! So sorry for the misunderstanding there.

Thanks for the feedback Redditors!

Day 14: Yogurtland!

I took this with my crappy 5 megapixel phone camera. It still counts D:

Yes, I skipped day 13 because 13 is a bad luck number!

Okay, I actually just completely forgot to. Actually, I did take some photos last night with my cell phone, but for some reason my crappy phone decided not to save any of them!! I'm so freaking mad!! Last night I went to see Jochem Miller with a couple of friends from school that I haven't seen in ages! It was so much fun and I didn't get home until 4am. I took some photos of us and some photos of the awesome venue, but alas, my phone ate them and won't give them back. :( Can't wait to upgrade in May!

Regarding the photo, I just took this right now with my phone and edited it with Instagram filters. Not bad for a crappy 5mp phone right?? I got my favorite flavors: Matcha green tea and plain yogurt swirl. I'm boring like that and don't really like getting new flavors. I always make my yogurt servings really pretty like that, because I'm so used to doing it form when I worked at a yogurt store a few years back. We would serve them ourselves instead of letting the customers self serve, and we had to practice making it look pretty like that. So now I just always do it like this. Plus, it leaves a nice, deep gap around it for toppings :D Pretty AND convenient.

Day 12: Taro Milk Tea

First of all, let me just say how much I really HATE this photograph. lol. I went to a Boba shop near Burbank (the ONLY one!) because I was craving Milk tea for a while. It's one of my favorite drinks in the world yet I haven't had one in ages! So I went on a quest to find some milk tea around my area.

I got Taro milk tea with boba. Honestly, the taro milk tasted really good but the boba had absolutely no flavor! Like, wtf? Maybe I'm spoiled by Half&Half boba which is like the tastiest boba I've ever had, but this was seriously disappointing. The boba balls were so bland and gross. Total disappointment.

And the reason I hate this photo is because it's too damn tilted. The reason I'm posting this is because it's the only photograph I could take. Right as I snapped it, my camera ran out of battery. -__- I had totally forgot to charge it the night before.

Day 11: Copics

Copics are a designer's luxury marker. These little babies cost like $5-8 a pop! But they do deliver and they are far more superior than a Crayola (no offense, Crayola).

I don't really draw much anymore, but every now and then when I'm feeling inspired, I'll draw something in my sketch book. Most of the time though, I'm not drawing pictures of people or things. I like making designs! In this day and age, we're all used to using our computers to do design work, but there is something nicer about doing things by hand. Like letters for instance. An email just feels so impersonal. When I get hand written letters (which is very rare) it really 'means' something more, knowing a part of this person is contained in the letter. Your handwriting is unique to your own, and I think when you're drawing with your hands, onto a paper, it also transfers a personal feel. Not that there is anything wrong with drawing digitally. I just think it means more to do things by hand. And if there is anything close to using Pantone colors by hand, it would be through Copics.

Day 10: J-fashion

I love looking through Japanese fashion magazines! Japan has some of the coolest fashions I've ever seen! I can't wait to go to Tokyo and shop to my hearts content. I'm sure my wallet will cry but at least I'll look damn awesome.

I pick up my J-mags at Kinokuniya in Little Tokyo. They're actually pretty expensive compared to the American fashion magazines, but I think it's worth it. As a designer, I get inspired by the fashions from Japan and it's fun to go back and look at these magazines over and over again.

Day 9: Apple: You want her for her looks, not her personality.

I currently have the Macbook pro, which I've had for over a year now. It's simple, doesn't lag, doesn't give me viruses, and generally, I've had no problems with it. I got it because I'm a graphic designer and I like the screen vibrancy on Macbooks as opposed to most of the commercially priced PC's. Not to mention, Macbooks look hella sleek and sexy. I hate the ugly bulking look of most PC laptops. And although I may be vain when it comes to technology, I am not really tech bias. Even though I own quite a few Apple things, I refused to buy an iPhone or take any interest in it for a long time. Not to totally sound hipster, but I just thought the iPhone was the most over-hyped product I've ever heard of. Most of my friends have iPhones and I've played with many of them. I was never impressed by one. I've stuck with Android since its inception in 2008 on the Google G1! I love the versatility and customization options on the Android so iPhones don't impress me there. But one thing I envy about iPhone users is a vain one, and that's the many cute cases you can get for your phone. Oh well, at least I won't be tempted to buy a shitload of cases. However, I do think the iPhone 5 is a really nice phone that has a nice camera on it, and that is also important to me. For my upcoming phone upgrade, I'm actually contemplating on the iPhone 5, but most likely will wait it out until the Galaxy S4 gets released.

Honestly, if Apple products were not visually pretty, do you think most people would be so hyped up about it? I think my Macbook is gorgeous, and I also think my previous first edition Macbook with its sleek edged, minimal lines and pure white body was a sight for sore eyes. I definitely have nothing but good things to say about the 'looks' of Apple products. I'm a minimalist whore in terms of design. But I do appreciate techy things in all forms and brands. As long as it does what I want it to do and looks 'decent', I'm happy with it.

I want to end this post with a random gif of Day[9], my favorite SC2 commentator doing an Immortal impression. (because it's "day 9!!" :D)

Day 8: Sneaker Days

Ever since high school, I was always a sneakers person. I think it partly comes from the fact that  I'm a tomboy and mainly just because they're so damn comfortable. It's kind of sad to know I have a laundry basket full of Nikes that I never wear anymore. Nowadays I'm really laid back about how I dress and putting on sneakers takes too much work. My goal is to own slip on sneakers or flats in every color of the spectrum. But occasionally, I do like to wear my old shoes if they seem to match with something in my wardrobe other than sweats.

Photographed: White Nike Air Force 1's.

Interesting to note is the material of these sneakers. I don't know what it's called, but it's a really filmy, shiny material that kind of reminds me of Moon Boots. I thought it was a really cool and unique pair at the time (and it was...) and now I'm like, what the hell was I thinking? I'd like to think they are meant for rain. Also, considering that these are about five years old, it's still pretty damn clean. I guess that's the nice thing about the material. Since it's not canvas or leather, it doesn't get dirty at all. If it does, I can just wipe it off with a napkin and voila! Good as new.

Day 7: Line Play

I've been obsessed with this stupid game called "Line Play". I mean seriously, the whole purpose of this game is to collect 'gems' so that you can buy more stuff. Like, literally that is all the game is about. You gain gems through mundane little tasks, like eating the same thing over and over again, and then you buy stuff you like. And the process of gaining gems is painstakingly dragging. It takes forever to make 1000 gems and most items are a good 1200+. Yet, the game targets people like me, who likes games like these because the graphics are so damn cute! Whyyyy. I think the people who made this app are geniuses. Did I mention you can spend actual money to buy gems? And honestly, buying one good item equals $1. ITS MADNESS.

I want to stop playing this game but then.......look how cute my character is!

Day 6: Jax

This is my fluffy cat Jax.
Yes, we did name him after a League of Legends character. I've had him for a little over a year now and couldn't imagine my life without him. Even though he can be a brat, he puts up with our crazy antics and occasional bullying. I treat him like I'd treat a little brother. Sometimes we fight, sometimes we just watch TV and live peacefully. Sometimes he comes on the bed in the middle of night and purrs while kneading the blanket. He's getting kinda fat but somehow that makes cats cuter. :B

I love my little brat. Wouldn't have him any other way.

Oh yeah, and I cheated =X. I had class yesterday and took a final that I bombed into oblivion. I was so tired from lack of sleep that I literally came home, knocked out for a good 6hrs or so. Needless to say, I didn't do my Day 6 photo on actual Day 6.....but shh...I compensate with this picture of my cat.

Day 5: "Star Stuff"

According to the study of cosmology, we are all made of "star stuff". As stars eventually explode into supernovas, the atoms of these stars obliterate all over space. And as gravity and dark matter start to form planets, the glittering stardust becomes a part of the planets. And as that stardust enters the Earth's atmosphere, the atoms of those stars become infused into the make of everything, including humankind. So technically, yeah, we are all made of the same stuff as stars.

It's poetic isn't it? It also sounds really weird when you realize that at the very microscopic level, we are made of all sorts of junk. We all know dust particles are all around us and germs are constantly clinging onto our skins. I'm sure it's gross to see what's floating around in our bodies when you zoom in close enough. *shudder* I really don't even want to know.

I've always been infatuated with 'stars', whether the stars in the night sky or just the geometrical shape. Taking an Astronomy class has made me fall in love with them all over again. And for brownie points, I can actually explain what stars are and how they form in space. I have to say, as much as I hate getting up in the morning to attend this Saturday class, at least the subject is super interesting.

Speaking of the class, I have a huge exam coming up tomorrow which I'll be studying all night for. I was so close to just skipping out on today's photo of the day, but I realize it would take like less than 5mins to do it and I should be consistent with ONE LITTLE THING in my life. So here it is, I done did it.

Day 4: USB

My USB's that I've been carrying around since the beginning of going to Art school. They all have their different purposes and I've lost all of them at least once. I honestly don't know what I'd do if I permanently lost all of them. I would probably cry.

A little "Riot" in Santa Monica

Day 3: Heart's desires........

Lately my heart's been feeling heavy. With every doubt that creeps in my mind to the paranoia of the future, I just can't help but feel that sometimes I really don't know if I'm good at what I'm trying to do.

I need to believe in myself more. I come from a humble background where bragging really gets you nowhere. I've never really been too proud of myself with any accomplishments. I think it's that part of me that keeps me grounded. At the same time, my mind sometimes becomes overwhelmed by doubt and I hate that. The moment that I feel I can release my full potential, I back down from the fear that I'm not good enough. But deep inside, I KNOW I'm good enough. I know I can do whatever I set my mind to.

Don't ever doubt yourself. No matter how much you want to, don't let it win you over. Because chances are, you will kill any potential for you to accomplish something amazing. What you exude is visible to people around you. Always remember that. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will. Even if you have to fake it, believe in yourself. And maybe someday, you really will.

Day 2: League of Legends

It's been a little over a year since I first started playing a little well known video game called "League of Legends". An ex-friend of mine introduced it to me initially, but my boyfriend was the one who got me to actually download and play it. It went from a simple video game that I recall quoting, "I give this a good 3 months before I get tired of it....." to a game I can see myself playing until the next big thing. But let's face it, League of Legends isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It set a completely new standard in what we now like to call "esports".

With over 7 million registered player names, League of Legends is now the most popular game in the WORLD! Seriously, go ask a kid on the street if they know what it is. Most likely they will. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly is fun to play. Although not many will like the redundancy of the game's interface, the best part of LoL is the sheer amount of characters that are playable. There's always something to learn when it comes to this game and I think that's why I've been dedicated to it for as long as I have been.

The Meaning Behind The Wrist Bands
I collected these wrist bands at various League of Legends tournaments and from different people who work at the company. The pink and blue ones say "baylife" on them, which is a catchphrase from one of the pro teams, TSM. They gave these out at a finals event last year. Out of all of these though, I put the black and grey one on top because they are the most special to me. The grey one was given to me by one of the people working at the game's company (Riot Games) and was a special "vip" wristband where we could sit in the center of the stadium, near all the professional gamers and employers. It was one of the most fun video game events I had ever attended. The black one was given to me by the CEO's wife! She's a sweet lady who makes sure the fans are having fun and happy. At one of the events, it was really crowded and I needed to use the restroom. We were actually sitting near an area that was blocked off by the event people for the pro players to use to walk in and out of the viewing area. I asked her if I could go out that way but apparently, the event security were making sure that they only let people with black wristbands in and out. She was ultra busy that day, running around taking care of business, so I didn't want to intrude her by asking her to accompany in and out to use the restroom. But since she's the CEO's wife, she probably didn't need a wristband and just gave me hers! It was our little secret. I was basically able to go in and out of the area, as if I was part of the team or something lol. So yes, the black one does have quite some sentimental value to it.

Being involved in the League of Legends esports scene to me, is like an elite hobby that not all my friends know about or care about. I've always envied people who were really engrossed in sports or dancing or some kind of hobby that harbors a massive community of enthusiasts. Although I enjoy watching some sports and even dancing, I'm not completely submerged into the scene. With LoL, I am. And that makes me feel like I'm part of something.

Day 1: The Holographic Universe

I've been on a strong Astronomy kick as of late. It probably has to do with the fact that I've been taking an Astronomy class this quarter--on Saturday mornings no less.

I initially hated the idea of taking a class on Saturday but it's actually not so bad. The Astronomy class is really interesting and even though it's an extensive amount of information jam packed into 11 weeks, I find the subject fascinating. I can't say the same for the actual class though. My professor is pretty easy going and seems knowledgeable enough, but he's not very engaging when it comes to teaching the subject. Honestly, I've learned more just by reading the required textbook, watching youtube videos, and reading articles than I have from sitting in that class. Nonetheless, it's a nice break away from my usual classes.

At the end of our quarter we're doing a project on a topic of our choice. I chose to do mine on different galaxies and their impact in space over time. For example, our closest galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy will collide with our Milky Way in some odd billion years. We have nothing to worry about it in our lifetime but it's still interesting to know what that would be like.

I picked up a book by well known physicist Michio Kaku that I'll probably reference heavily on my project. I also got this book off Amazon, "The Holographic Universe" as a side read. I've actually heard a lot about this book and came across it several times online but kind of brushed it to the side because it wasn't really in my 'field' of interest. Turns out it has always been in my field of interest! I'm halfway through the book and it's an interesting read so far but it's definitely meant to be read with an open mind. The book delves into things outside of practical sciences and goes into the stuff that most scientists wouldn't dare try to bring up as 'factual' in any way. Everything from psychic powers and parallel universes. But it's not an all bullshit book. It lays the ideas and the foundation of these "paranormal" ideas that we all know and many mock of. Some things come backed up with some scientific explanations that get you thinking. It's a really interesting read for anyone who is remotely into how our seemingly endless universe correlates with the microscopic life we witness day to day.
